SOS to Mothers of Grown Boys

ok ladies (and gents if there are any)...I need your help.

I am the proud mom of two boys, and one sassy princess...that said I am stumped at a "boy issue" I am currently having...

Mini #1 just turned nine, he is still a little boy but in a big boys body. My dilemna you ask?

HE STINKS!

Yes, you read that correctly. We have hit the age of B.O. BIGTIME. The problem is it doesnt go away! Soap, deodorant..NOTHING WORKS!

What do I do? I don't want to have the stinky kid in school, he is cute and funny and even still wears monogrammed insignia tees. But he smells like a locker room.

Please wise moms of boys who are grown, enlighten this girly girl on what to so with her stinky boy? I can handle PMS and acne and everything girly (it was only me and my sister so I am completely lost here!) but this boy has me stumped! Does puberty really start this early? What is next? Oh my I have so many questions....

Who wants to be my mentor?

I'm going to tell you what my boys have always done. (they are 17 and 19 now) They always get compliments on how good they smell so something must be working. They both have taken showers morning and night since middle school. They use Irish Spring liquid soap and wash their hair every day. I think that the Irish Spring works so well becuase it's a deoderant soap. They do wash their faces with Dove or Ivory. They just keep it all in the shower. I know a friend of theirs in middle school was getting laughted at and they both told him he needed use their soap. I know many of the boys they played hockey with would take showers but not wash their hair. Also, undershirts seem to help too. I think when boys are younger they hop in the shower and hop out without ever really scrubbing.
It's funny around our house because the boys are so much more anal about being clean than my daughter. She went to an all girls school and they were more lax than I liked about showers and stuff. They didn't have to impress the boys. The boys have been in an all boy school and even their teachers tell me they sure smell good in class. It can get kind of smelly with all those boys. :)
Good Luck. Hope this wasn't too long.

Pearls gave such great wisdom! My 11 year old son is the oldest and hasn't started with BO yet. I sure feel equipped when he does. I would love for him to be anal about his hygiene. For now, he has to be nagged to shower, etc.

Yay for Irish Spring! I love that soap and Coast also. I have to admit that after reading your post, I checked in out of curiosity to see what people were suggesting...interesting Miss Pearls!:) Good luck!

My son will be nine soon and plays soccer, baseball and lacrosse. Yes, when he gets sweaty he kind of smells. I diligently enforce showers (with soap), clean shirts and keep his hair short. A buzz is easy and low maitenance!

this happened to my now 10 year old daughter. Not that it was BO, but boy was she stinky! She has to shower every morning before school unless she has had sports then showers when she gets home. Hygiene is discussed in the 4th grade, and was discussed in her Girl Scouts. She has a nice stick of deoderant too.

Hair washing is key as well. Because young kids have a harder time using actual soap, we have shower gels in our bathrooms. Some of the "Manly" versions are perfumed or have deoderant in them.

Best of luck!

Pearls To Hide My Neck gave great advice. I have two boys, ten and nine. They both play hockey so unfortunately I know the awful smell of sweatiness!!!

Both boys take showers morning and night almost everyday. I make sure they wash their hair and use body wash. I can tell when they just jump in the shower and stand there - that doesn't wash away the stink.

My ten year old who "stinks" the most, (I swear is the sweatiest kid I've ever seen), uses deodorant everyday.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

my daughter started this BO thing at age 7! I had her checked out and the drs all reccomended deodarent and Dial soap. Dial is key. I didn't like the idea of using deodarent so early, so they prescribed an erythromycin liquid to dab on daily. All will work. It's a struggle
